Obituary: "Nana" Ruth Garlington, May 18, 2011 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines Feb 2012 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - May 27, 2011 GARLINGTON "Nana" Ruth Garlington, 82, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 18, 2011 after a brief battle with cancer. Virginia was born January 31, 1929 to Jodie and Novella Ward in Kerens, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband of twenty-nine years, John W. (J.W.) Garlington, her parents, brother, Joe Allen Ward, and grandson, Casey Eubanks. She is survived by one sister, Martha Nell Davis and husband Manning of Cisco, TX; two sons, Steven Garlington and wife Tere of Stanton, TX, Dan Garlington of Midland, TX; two daughters, Gay Nell Banning of Greeley, CO, and D'Ann Eubanks and husband Jeff of Robert Lee, TX; six grand- children, Will Garlington, Brandi Banning, Sharla Barger and husband Jason, Danielle Runyan and husband, Steven, Lori Cerritos and husband Jesse, Colby Eubanks; seven great-grand-children, Larrisa Banning, Zachary, Braxton, Rylee and Aubrey Barger, Caitlyn and Zachary Cerritos; two sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. After graduating from Powell High School, Virginia attended Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, TX, and then moved to Dallas and began her working career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. On March 29, 1952, Virginia and J.W. were married in Kerens, TX and then packed up and moved to West Texas. They began their life together at the Humble Oil Refining "Camp", north of Midkiff, TX. They moved to Robert Lee, TX in 1976. While in Robert Lee she was an active member of the Robert Lee Baptist Church, head of the Robert Lee School cafeteria for 15 years, an employee of the Robert Lee State Bank for over 17 years, and delivered flowers for local florists for over 10 years. Visitation will be held all day Friday, May 20, 2011 with family present from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Robert Lee location. A service of celebration will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Robert Lee Baptist Church with interment at the Hayrick Lodge Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the staff of 5 North at Shannon Medical Center, San Angelo, TX, for the care that was given to Nana. The family would also like to offer special thanks to the staff at Robert Lee Care Center and Vista Care Hospice for their kind and loving care. We are grateful for the many calls, visits, and prayers, during Nana's brief illness.
