Obituary: C. G. Richards, October 22, 2011 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines April 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - October 28, 2011 Services for C. G. Richards, 82, of Brownfield was held at 10 am Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Brother Darryl Bales officiating. Interment followed in Morton Memorial Park, Morton, Texas. A visitation was held from 6 to 8 pm, Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Resthaven Funeral Home. He peacefully passed away October 22, 2011, at his home in Brownfield. C. G. was born to Chester Lee and Ida Izola (Brashear) Richards on April 19, 1929, in Hockley County. He rode back to Cochran County the next day in a wagon pulled by a team of horses. He remembered his childhood on the Masten Ranch and on the farm, he fondly and spoke of it often to family and friends. C. G. married the love of his life, Bertie Ruth West, November 27, 1948, in Morton where they raised their four children. He owned and operated a water well service and was well respected for his work. He also worked as a ginner in the fall. In 1973, C. G. fulfilled his life time dream of becoming Sheriff of Cochran County; he served three terms before retiring and moving to Robert Lee. In recent years, he moved to Brownfield to be closer to family. C. G. was loved and cherished by his children and grandchildren and every memory is as dear and beloved as he was. He was a steady beacon of strength, calm, and love for his family. C. G. was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bertie on October 21, 1971, sisters, Juanita Newman and Corene Self, and by a brother; R. B. Richards. Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his children; Clara Bales and husband, Donald of Midland, Jackie Richards of Greenland, Arkansas, Verna Whittington and husband, Jim of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Gerald Richards and wife, Jaquita of Brownfield, sisters; Exa Weber of Hereford, Billie Martin of Big Spring, brothers; Louie Richards of Seminole, Oklahoma, Donnie Richards of Wolfforth, grandchildren; Darryl Bales, Mark Bales, Marshall Bales, Michael Bradley, Amber Wilson, Jason Richards, Sarah Richards and 11 great-grandchildren. C. G.'s greatest treasure, his grandchildren, will serve as pallbearers.
