Obituary: Carolyn Ruth Braswell, April 10, 2012 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines Feb 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - April 20, 2012 Carolyn Ruth Braswell, age 70, of College Station, Texas, passed from this life to the next on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. She was surrounded by her family and died after a long struggle with ALS. A memorial service was held at 3 pm, Friday April 13, at Christ United Methodist Church in College Station. Carolyn was born July 15, 1941, to the late Melvin and Essie McCullough Childress in Sanco, Coke County, Texas, the youngest of three daughters. Carolyn graduated from Robert Lee High School in Robert Lee, Texas in 1958. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Eddie Braswell, and four children - Ginger and husband Matt Williams of The Woodlands, Van Braswell and wife Elissa of Crowley, Sterling Braswell of College Station, and Gentry Braswell of Houston. She is survived by seven grandchildren - 1st LT Hunter Williams of Ft. Drum, New York, Dillon Williams of Austin, Evan Braswell of Bronte, Andra Braswell and fiancée Brandon Herrington of Ft. Worth, Jesse Braswell of Greenville, Spencer Braswell, and Jaidon Braswell. Carolyn is also survived by her sister Bonita Copeland Cartrite of Robert Lee, Texas, and a host of nieces and nephews who were very special to her since she babysat many of them. She was preceded in death by her sister Juanice Sheppard Herr of Memphis, Tennessee. Carolyn loved her family and music. She played the piano and sang in church and community choirs all of her life. Her home was always full of music and she loved to dance and perform. When Eddie was transferred to Alpine, she enrolled at Sul Ross University and sang with the University choir. Along with raising four children she worked for Sweetwater ISD and College Station ISD before becoming the CEO of Fed Star Credit Union in College Station. She worked for Blakely Crop Insurance for 5 years and was a Realtor with Century 21 Beal and Lone Star Realty for 10 years. When they moved to College Station in 1978, Carolyn and Eddie became members of A&M United Methodist Church. In 1995, they were part of the mission team that started Christ United Methodist Church in College Station, where they remain faithful members. Carolyn has been a part of the Music Ministry since then and the choir, ensembles and the children's choir were dear to her heart. The family would like to thank everyone for their support and also a Compassionate Care Hospice, especially Charli and Stacey. Memorials to Carolyn may be made to the Music Ministry at CUMC, 4201 Hwy 6 S, College Station, Texas 77845.
