Obituary: Carol "Gene" Brice, February 7, 2013 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines March 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - February 8, 2013 CAROL "GENE" BRICE Carol "Gene" Brice, 80, has "gone fishing" with the Lord and his family members who preceded him. There will be no visitation. Graveside services were held at 2 pm Thursday, February 7, 2013, at Fort Chadbourne Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Gene was born on January 19, 1933, to Earl Eugene Brice and Carrie Vivian (Snow) Brice in Nolan County, Texas. He later moved to New Mexico where he graduated from Deming High School in 1951. He worked for El Paso Natural Gas for thirteen years and spent the rest of his career traveling from the west coast to the east coast working in the construction industry as a millwright until his retirement. After retirement, he settled in Robert Lee so he could be close to his family and near the lake where he could spend his spare time fishing. Gene was an extraordinarily talented man and great artist. He made pastel drawings and had a very unique art in which he would find meteorites and make them into sculptures of animals and people. Gene also loved to watch old westerns, his favorite being anything with John Wayne as the star. Gene had a wonderful sense of humor and loved a good joke. He was a very honest man; you knew where you stood with Gene, he either liked you or he didn't. He will be greatly missed by all those whose lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Billy Ray Brice and Allen Brice. He is survived by his son, Bruce W. Brice and wife, Gayla of Santa Fe, Texas; daughters, Wendy Mahill and husband, Joel of Bakersfield, California, and D'Lois Schuman of Roswell, New Mexico; sister, Earline Moore of Cabot, Arkansas; his brother, Gary Brice and wife Marilynn of Albuquerque, New Mexico; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the ICU staff and doctors at San Angelo Community Hospital, especially, Dr. Ayass, for his genuine care and compassion. Also a special thanks to Martin Landeros for his special friendship to Gene. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gene's memory to the American Heart Association, PO Box 841125, Dallas, Texas 75284-1125. *************************** Permission granted by The Observer/Enterprise for publication in the Coke County TXGenWeb and/or the Coke County Archives of the USGenWeb.
