Obituary: John L. Bruton, July 22, 2013 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines April 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - July 26, 2013 John L. Bruton passed away Monday, July 22, 2013. The family received friends on Wednesday, July 24, 2013, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. Graveside services were held on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at 11 am at Robert Lee Cemetery in Robert Lee, Texas, with Portis Ribble and Don Mitchell officiating. He was born in Robert Lee on May 22, 1931, to Luther and Lillie Ruth Bruton. He grew up on a farm in Edith, Texas, and went to school at Green Mountain. He and his friends spent many happy hours at Dripping Springs playing in "The Drips". John graduated from Robert Lee High School where he was active in many sports. He attended Odessa College and played on their last football team. In 1951, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until 1954. He was a Korean War veteran and later enjoyed attending many ship's reunions with the crew of the USS Corson. While serving in the Navy, he married Janie Sue Higgins of Robert Lee. They moved to Midland in 1960 where John owned and operated Scotsdale Barbershop. He loved his job and said he had the best clientele in the world. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Luther and Lillie Ruth Bruton, step-father Ralph Garvin, and a sister Marjorie. He is survived by his wife Janie Bruton, two daughters Paula Belt and husband Greg, Patti Parson and husband Farris, two granddaughters Ellen Funderburg and husband Josh, Emily Belt, and one grandson Jarrett Parson, two great-grand-daughters Katherine and Lily Funderburg, and many special nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Dr. Vogel. Also, a special thanks to John's long-time customers and friends and all his caring neighbors at Scotsdale Barbershop.
