Obituary: Victor Daniel Eckert, July 18, 2013 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines April 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - July 26, 2013 Victor Daniel Eckert, 89, went to be with his heavenly Father on July 18, 2013. Visitation was from 9 am to 8 pm on Monday, July 22, 2013, at the funeral home with family present from 5 pm to 7 pm to receive visitors. Funeral services were held at 10 am, Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Shaffer Funeral Home's Sherwood Way chapel, officiated by Reverend Taylor Sandlin and CH (COL) Lewis Burnett. Interment followed in Robert Lee Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kyle Kemp, Daniel Kemp, Amy Wolslager, Emily Eckert, Monk McKay, K.C. Collier, Robert Heinze and Pat McCrea. Services were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way. Victor was born in Miles, Texas, on October 8, 1923, to Effie and Dan (Dandy) Eckert. The youngest of five children, he was raised on a cotton farm east of Miles where he learned how to milk, plow, plant, ride, hunt and fish. This is what led him to learn the value of hard work at an early age. Victor and Joyce Hester were married on April 19, 1942. He worked for Gulf Oil on a seismograph crew as a shooter. He was inducted into the Navy Seabees, May 14, 1943,where he served in the Pacific Theater for two years and seven months. Victor was in five invasions and received many awards, his company commanders first address to his battalion was "The Difficult would be done immediately, The IMPOSSIBLE, well it might take a little longer, but it would get done!!! Victor lived by this motto. Eckert Building Contractors began in 1947. He was a General Contractor responsible for many commercial and residential buildings in the West Texas area. Friends will remember the many stories of his family, war, hunting, fishing, gardening, and farm life. Preceding him to that Garden in Heaven, his wife, Joyce Eckert, on April 10, 2010 and one granddaughter Tamela Lewis. Victor is survived by his three children, Mike Eckert and wife Estelle, Becky Eckert and Vicky Eckert; grandchildren, Kyle Kemp and wife Sandy, Robin Kemp, Andrew Read, Amy Wolslager and husband Joe, Grant Eckert and Kristy Buckingham, Emily Eckert, and grandson-in-law Mike Lewis; great-grandchildren, Daniel Kemp and Zoie Allen; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Baptist Memorial Hospice. Thank you to all the home health and hospice nurses and aids. Honorary Pall Bearers were the grandchildren and great-grand children.
