Obituary: Mary Inez Gartman, May 3, 2013 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines April 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - May 17, 2013 Mary Inez Gartman, long-time resident of Robert Lee, Texas, passed away May 3, 2013, in Springfield, Missouri, following a fatal one-car auto accident. Inez would have celebrated her 94th birthday on May 12. Working along-side her father, sister Bettye, and brother-in-law Glen Thomason, Inez helped build trainer planes for North American in Grand Prairie, Texas, during World War II. Then for a number of years, Inez worked for the Coke County Hospital. Inez, for a time, served as dog catcher of Robert Lee. More recently, she raised and sold Boer goats all the while serving as a staunch supporter of Future Farmers in America in Robert Lee. Inez is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Bettye Jean and Robert Ramage of Colorado City, Texas, eight nieces and nephews, eleven great nieces and nephews, plus a host of good friends in addition to special friends Jean, Connie, Larisa and Sylest whom she considered extended family. Daughter of Dewey Roby Gartman and Ethel Leah Martin, Inez was preceded by her brother, D. R. Gartman, and sister, Ethel Lucille Thomason. Great stories of Inez and her life recently shared with the family touched their hearts to hear that everyone loved this pioneer character of Robert Lee. The family requests you to share your favorites with everyone at her memorial to express the mutual respect and love for Inez, her friends and her community. Inez's time with each member of family and friends over her lifetime influenced all their lives. The family asks you to join the celebration of the life on this earth of Mary Inez Gartman on Friday, May 17, 2013, at First Methodist Church, Robert Lee, 4:30pm. Inez had expressed she wanted her funeral to be late in the day so the "working people" could be in attendance.
