Obituary: Katherine Rawlings Meador, August 19, 2013 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines May 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - Friday August 30, 2013 Katherine Rawlings Meador, 88, a longtime resident of Abilene passed away August 19, 2013, at a medical center in Abilene. Memorial services were held Sunday, August 25, at 1:30pm at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Libby and Rev. Felicia Hopkins officiating under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Hwy 277 South. Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Graveside services were Monday, August 26, 2013. The daughter of Albert and Fay Rawlings, Katherine was a native of West Texas born in Bronte, Texas, on August 12, 1925. Upon graduation from Bronte High School, she attended Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. She taught homemaking at Ballinger and Abilene High Schools. Katherine married her high school sweetheart Randal G. Meador on August 31, 1948, in Bronte, Texas. Katherine was a member of Retired Teachers, Abilene Woman's Club, and Abilene Mother's Study Club. She was an active member of St. Paul Methodist Church serving on boards and committees and was active in United Methodist Women as well as a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Katherine worked as a volunteer for various civic organizations. Her husband, Randal preceded her in death in March of 1996, and her grandson, Troy Williams also preceded her in death in January 1996. Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Clark of Killeen, and Linda Williams of Lubbock; grandson, Stoney Williams and wife, Heather and their children, Ross, Madison, and Ethan Williams, all of Lubbock; grandson, Randal Clark and wife, Jenni and their children, Elizabeth, Victoria, and Jackson Clark, all of Hutto; James and Nancy Poe; Brian and Elizabeth Poe and children, David and Brandi Poe; a very special friend, Becky Cox; cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
