Obituary: Elisabeth Reed, April 7, 2013 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines Mar 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - April 12, 2013 "First this life and then the next," was a saying Elisabeth Reed repeated often as she neared the end of her life. Elisabeth passed from this life to the next to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for eternity on April 7, 2013. She was 102 years of age. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wayne S. Reed, her daughter Anne Hartley Powell and her son John McKinley Reed. She is survived by her son Wayne S. Reed, Jr. and his wife Judy Reed of Dallas and Anne's husband Don Powell of Robert Lee; grandchildren Chris Walior and wife Caron of Houston, Michael Walior of Austin, Todd Reed of Frisco, Adam Reed and wife Joni of Dallas, and six great-grandchildren. Elisabeth's family would like to thank all the staff at the Robert Lee Care Center who took care of her for the last five years. We very much appreciate the loving care she received from each one of you. Elisabeth was born and reared in Monroe, Louisiana. Her mother died when she was 2 months old, and she was adopted by her cousin, who lived down the street from her family. Her childhood and early life was lived in a place of many trees - magnolias, pines, cypress and gentile surroundings. Elisabeth and Wayne were married in 1940, and later their family moved to Delmita, Texas, in Star County, 30 miles from Rio Grande City. Elisabeth had come from the beautiful surroundings of Monroe to what may be the roughest part of Texas. When her husband Wayne was transferred to Silver with Sun Oil Company in 1953 and the family topped the divide coming from San Angelo to Silver, she thought this was the most beautiful place. She grew to love West Texas and lived 60 years in Coke County. She often asked when her friends and acquaintances passed away, "Why am I still here?" We would tell her that God still had plans for her. And God did have plans for her. She brought love, joy and laughter to those of us who loved her and to those who knew her. She was an inspiration to all in the way she adjusted and accepted the loss of a husband and two of her children, and in the way she faced life each day with a good attitude and a willing spirit. She was glad to have a window in the Robert Lee Care Center looking out on an oak tree. She loved nature. One of her favorite poems is "Trees" by Joyce Kilmer. What a wonderful blessing it was to have her for all these years. We will never forget her. We loved her very much and will miss her greatly. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013, at 3 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Robert Lee with a graveside service to follow at the Robert Lee Cemetery. *************************** Permission granted by The Observer/Enterprise for publication in the Coke County TXGenWeb and/or the Coke County Archives of the USGenWeb.
