Obituary: Audrey Cornelia (Nelia) Boykin Walker, February 16, 2013 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines Mar 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - Feb 22, 2013 Audrey Cornelia (Nelia) Boykin Walker, 81, died Saturday, February 16, 2013, in the Robert Lee Care Center in Robert Lee, Texas, after a short battle with liver cancer. Funeral services were held at10 am, Monday, February 18, 2013, at the Robert Lee Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Danny White. Burial followed in the Robert Lee Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Nelia was the fifth child born to Benjamin Horace and Grace (Key) Boykin, on September 29, 1931, near Miles, Texas. She attended school in Robert Lee, graduating in 1949. On February 14, 1949, Nelia and D.J. Walker, Jr. had their first date. On October 23, 1949, at 8:30 on a Sunday morning, they were married in the Robert Lee Methodist Church. Except for a few months in Eldorado and Sweetwater, Texas, D.J. and Nelia lived on the north edge of Robert Lee in the house they built in 1950. Nelia worked all her life making home a special place for her family. She was successful in many areas of her life. She was a creator of many things - from family meals to wedding dresses, to doll clothes and doll furniture. She also enjoyed crocheting, painting, and working on family genealogy. Nelia was a member of Robert Lee Baptist Church, a 4-H leader, a Sunday school teacher and delivered many sermons to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Farming and ranching were always a part of D.J. and Nelia's life. If she had a nickel for every gate she opened, every lamb she caught, and every meal she packed, she could have easily afforded the crisp new sheets she wanted on her bed every day. Nelia was preceded in death by her husband, D.J., her parents, three brothers, two sisters and one great-grandson, Charles Helwig. Nelia is survived by four daughters, Sharon Pitcock and husband Darrel of Robert Lee and Glen Rose, Texas; Becky Purvis and husband Dennis of Sonora, Texas; Audrey Devoll and husband Donnie of Robert Lee; Cindy Riley and husband Mark of Midland and San Angelo. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren; Audra (Pitcock) and husband Randy, Jessica, Katie and Emily Gaines of Dripping Springs, Texas; Judd and wife Cathy, Alexis, Lauryn, and Eryn Pitcock of San Angelo, Texas; Jenny (Purvis) and husband Charles, Cade and Cash Kneuper of Hamilton, Texas; Laura (Purvis) and husband Ladd, Trey and Halle Hughes of Christoval; Jerrod and wife Amber, Brody, Kylen and Jewel Pitcock of Robert Lee, Texas; Chad and wife Heather, Caleb, Christian and Heidi Helwig of Lawton, Oklahoma; Kari (Purvis) and husband Clay and Hayden Hale of Ozona, Texas; Matthew and wife Jessie, Landry, Hannah and Walker Pitcock of Mustang, Oklahoma; Jodee (Helwig) and husband Chad and Lillee Melton of Raytown, Missouri; Cooper Riley and wife Whitney of Mertzon, Texas; Travis and wife Lindsey, Braydon, and Granger of Greenwood, Texas; and Julie (Riley) and husband Clint Halfmann of Wall. *************************** Permission granted by The Observer/Enterprise for publication in the Coke County TXGenWeb and/or the Coke County Archives of the USGenWeb.
