Obituary: Billy Neal "Pop" Wheat, June 27, 2013 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines June 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - July 5, 2013 On Thursday, June 27, 2013, Billy Neal Wheat "Pop", 85, was called to go build castles with his Lord and Savior in heaven. Pop will be greeted by his mother, Marie Wheat, his father, Jewel Wheat, his sister, Mildred Mullins, and his brother; Jim Wheat. The heavenly castles will be ready to greet the rest of the family left here on earth, his wife, Jane Ann Wheat, of Bronte, his daughter, Teri Lynn Wheat Ervin, husband Tommy Glenn Ervin of Odessa, his granddaughters Jill Ann Davis, husband, Drew of Christoval, and Wendy Lyn Davis, husband Toby of San Angelo,and his four great grandchildren, Dree Davis, Jade Davis, Dash Davis, and Brooke Davis and his "adopted son" Michael Thomas Johnson of San Angelo. Pop was born September 6, 1927, in Ranger, Texas, moving with his family soon after to Odessa, Texas. There he met the love of his life, Jane Ann Alexander, married her February 6, 1949, and had one daughter, Teri, in 1954. After 30 years, they built a home on Oak Creek Lake where they stayed for 30 plus years before making their home in Bronte, Texas. During his borrowed time on Earth, Pop, was a "perfectionist" carpenter, an artist using mediums of paper and pencil, metal ,rocks, eggs, and wood along with anything else he found to "play" with. Many of his friends and family all over the United States have been blessed with his pencil portraits and his crosses. A celebration of Pop's healing was held at 2 pm, Sunday, June 30, 2013, at the First Methodist Church in Bronte, Texas. Memorials may be made to the First Methodist Church in Bronte or HOSA, Hospice of San Angelo.
