Obituary: Christine Corley, November 9, 2014 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines June 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - November 21, 2014 Christine Corley passed away November 9, 2014, in Bronte, Texas, at the age of 91. Christine was born on October 20, 1923, in Spade, Texas, to Gladys Hammons Van Zandt and Henry Harrison Van Zandt. While on a fishing trip to Concho County in 1937, their car broke down in Tennyson, Texas. Her father traded his land in Spade for the Post Office at Tennyson. He soon died of appendicitis and Gladys was post mistress of the Post Office. Christine graduated from Bronte High School where she met and married Jack Corley on March 15, 1941. After all five children were in school, Christine drove the Bronte school bus, cleaned DK and Betty Glenn's home, CB and Wanda Barbee's home and worked at Joni-Lynn Blouse Factory as a seamstress. Christine became a member of the Bronte Church of Christ in August of 1950. Christine loved attending church and being with her church family. Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Elsie; brother, Jake; her husband, Jack and her precious granddaughter, Becky. Christine is survived by her children, James and Brenda Tidwell, Jim and Mary Morrow, Jack and Glenda Corley, Larry and Joan Corley, Davis and Eilene Corley; two sisters, Sarah May and Ina Coyle; numerous nieces, nephews and special sisters-in-law, Effie Corley and Ernestine Van Zandt. Christine's grandchildren are Shelene and Travis Black, Jimmy and Coralie Tidwell, Kenneth Cochran, John Morrow, Jami Williams, Jason Corley, Justin and Carrie Corley, Shannon and Glenn Cunningham, Kenneth and Amy Corley, Scott and Ashley Corley and Kurt Corley. Great Grandchildren are Lynn and Kaci Follis, Caleb Usry, Tristen and Bo Morrow, Tanner and Kailan Cochran, Cory Cochran, Maelyn and Raymond Williams, William, Bert and Jack Corley, Noah, Abby, Ruby and Cailey Cunningham, Bailey Logan, Jonna and Andrew Wacker,Jordyn Tidwell; Great great-grandchildren, Kacelyn, Kolson and Karter Follis, Briley and Beckham Logan and Kason Cockran. The Corley family would like to thank the Bronte Health and Rehab Center for their support and care of "Big Momma" for the last year. Visitation was Thursday at 10 am at Bronte Church of Christ with Memorial Services following at 11 am at the church. Graveside services were private with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Special honorary pallbearers were Annie L. Carlton, Rosie Agent, Lois Wallace, Effie Corley, Lora Belle Brown, Lawana Askins, and Joyce Decker. Services were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. The family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions be made to the Bronte Ambulance Service or Bronte Volunteer Fire Department in memory of Christine.
