Obituary: M.C. Hendry, May 28, 2014 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines June 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - June 6, 2014 Hendry M.C. Hendry passed from this earth to his forever home on May 28, 2014, after a short illness. He was born March 2, 1929, to Arthur and Riley Hendry in Blackwell, Texas. M.C. graduated from Blackwell High School in 1946. He joined the Army and served his country during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, he came home to Texas and married Jinger Wright on January 1, 1954. He and his wife of sixty years ranched and raised their family at Silver and Sterling City, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Jinger; son, Tommy; daughters; Debby Bynum, Marion McIntyre and her husband Dale. He is also survived by his sister, Dona Sanderson and her husband Bobby; his grandchildren, Christy and her husband Jack Joyce, Stacey Mecke, Coke Hendry and his wife Val, Shanna Bynum, Casey Bynum, Seth Weddle and wife, Beth. "Poppy" had seven great-grandkids whom he got a kick out of watching. M.C. loved mules and wagons. In 1986, he and Jinger were a part of the Sesquicentennial Wagon Train that traveled all over Texas. After the wagon train, he and Jinger along with his favorite mules, Pet and Peso, were invited to the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. They continued that tradition for the next eighteen years. M.C. was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Sterling City and was a past Worshipful Master of the Sterling City Masonic Lodge #728. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite and a Shriner. M.C. belonged to the American Legion in Sterling City and served on the Coke County Soil & Water Conservation Board. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur & Riley Hendry, brother, James Hendry and son-in- law Bobby Bynum. Visitation was held at the Sterling County Community Center on May 30, 2014, from 5:30 to 7 pm. Funeral services were at 10:30 am, Saturday, May 31, 2014, at First United Methodist Church of Sterling City, Texas, with burial immediately following at Montvale Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Casey Bynum, Coke Hendry, and Seth Weddle along with Carl Potter, Troy Millican, and Art Henderson. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, Christy Joyce, Shanna Bynum, and Stacy Mecke, along with Bill McClellen. In lieu of flowers, please consider a charity of your choice.
