Obituary: Eula Verne Nixon Lee, November 21, 2014 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines Mar 2015 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - December 5, 2014 Eula Verne Nixon Lee went to be with her heavenly father on Friday, November 21, 2014. She was a resident at Bronte Health and Rehab in Bronte, Texas. Graveside services were held at 1:30 pm, Sunday, November 23, 2014, at Fairview Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Eula Verne was born in Fort Bend County, Guy, Texas, on May10, 1919. Her parents were Martin Luther Nixon and Mary Claire Stephenson Nixon. She married Hurlin Dewitt Lee on April 8, 1936, in Robert Lee, Texas. They had two sons, Martin Needham Lee of Bronte, Texas, and Thomas Craig Lee of San Angelo, Texas. Eula Verne loved to cook and bake and was a very "special room mother" when her sons were in the Bronte School as she prepared delicious "goodies" for their school parties. Trick or Treaters loved to go to her house on Halloween for the delicious feast she had prepared for them. The auction held each year at the Bronte Health and Rehab July 4th celebration was something she was very proud to support by baking many cakes and pies through the years. Eula Verne loved living in the country and growing up on a farm where she lived most of her life. She had a "pioneer spirit" about her and was always an outdoor person. She was an avid gardener, planted huge gardens, and reaped the rewards by canning and freezing lots of vegetables. Her yard always had beautiful flowers growing in it, and her porch was covered with red geraniums every summer. Her love of flowers was extended into the ownership of Bronte Flowers and Gifts which she operated for several years. She was a sportsman and went fishing and deer hunting from the time she was a young girl until she killed her last deer at the age of ninety. Eula Verne was preceded in death by her parents, husband and her greatgrandson, Kyler Scott Lee. Survivors include sons, Martin and Pat Lee of Bronte and Tom and Elaine Lee of San Angelo; sister, Novella Lee of Bronte. Grandchildren include Lisa Curnutt of Salado, Sheila and Mike Graf of Salado, Stephen and Molly Lee of Canyon, Todd Lee and fiancé Diane Paradis of San Angelo, Mike and Jennifer Lee of Dallas, Chancey and Vicky Burrows of San Angelo, Brande and Ronnie Hudson of Miles, Shelley and Brady Knowlton of Rockwall. Great-grandchildren include Tiffany and Chris Lange of Blackwell, Chase and Corinne Coulter of Abilene, Kelsey Boshears of Austin, Alex Curnett of Dallas, Sterling Curnett of Salado, Jarrett Lee of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jacy and Katie Lee of Canyon and Jordan Lee of San Angelo, Cody and Randi Lee, Chad Paradis, Macy and Caroline Lee, C.J. Burrows, Kambrey, Clay, Halle and Jake Hudson, Athens and Augustus Knowlton. Two great-great-grandchildren are Cambrey and Caitlin Lange. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bronte Health and Rehab Center in Bronte, Texas.
