Obituary: Elmer Lawrence Cole, Jr., December 31, 2015 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines Jan 2016 *********************************************************************** The Observer/Enterprise, Coke County, TX - Friday, January 8, 2016 Elmer Lawrence Cole, Jr. died December 31, 2015, at the age of 87. Lawrence was born July 19, 1928, to Treatie Ross Cole and Elmer Lawrence Cole, Sr. in Big Lake, Texas. He graduated from Robert Lee High School in 1947. It was there that he met his wife, Frances Johnson, and together they raised eight children. For many years, he farmed and operated heavy machinery for J. D. Harmon, later Caston Company, in Robert Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives, Frances Johnson Cole and Lucille Elliot Cole, his brother, Johnny, sons, Max and Kent, daughter-in-law, Cindy Cole and granddaughter, Amy Cole. Lawrence is survived by his sons, Andy Cole, Cliff Cole and wife Shelley; daughters, Sherry Nail and husband Morgan, Kay Duerksen and husband Richard, Jodelle Block and husband Richard and Patti Shore. Also surviving are sisters, Irene Monk, Imogene Vines, Inez Caston and Olene Mason and husband Donald; and brothers, Tommy Cole and wife Collene and Lanny Cole and wife Madaline; fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation was all day Sunday, January 3, 2016, at the funeral home with family present from 1 pm to 3 pm. A service celebrating his life was held at 2 pm, Monday, January 4, 2016, at Shaffer Funeral Home's Sherwood Way Chapel. Burial followed in Robert Lee Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way. Lawrence was a kind and humble man, and will be greatly missed. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and Cedar Manor Nursing Home for the special care shown to our daddy during his final days.
