Obituary: J. A. Jordan, February 12, 1944 Contributed by Brenda Scott Hines June 2011 *********************************************************************** The Bronte Enterprise, Coke County, TX - February 25, 1944 JORDAN J. A Jordan of Blackwell Dies at Ripe Age of 80 J. A. Jordan, one of the old-time citizens of the Blackwell section of country, died February 12, 1944. A native of Mississippi, he was born at Decatur, in Newton County. When only two years old he came with his parents to Texas and settled in Leon County. Later the family moved to Navarro County, and on September 1, 1914, arrived with his family in Nolan County. December 1890, Mr. Jordan and Miss Eula Farmer were united in marriage. To them seven children were born, all of whom survive. The children are Elmer, Austin, Robert and Joe of Blackwell; Mrs. Mill Harris and Roe Jordan, Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. Anna Bell Branham, Fort Worth. There are 18 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Surviving besides the wife and children are two sisters and a brother. They are Mrs. Lou Haskins, Wortham; Mrs. Mary Hillard, Emhouse, and J. A. Oden, Blackwell. Interment was in the Blackwell cemetery Tuesday afternoon, February 15, following religious services at the Blackwell Methodist church, of which deceased had been a member for many years, conducted by the pastor. Rev. Wilbur F. Gaede, assisted by Rev. Ray Lee, at one time pastoring the church and kinsman of the family.
