owners or agents thereof for the year 1889" (Abstracted from microfilm 
in the Microfilm Room of Angelo State Universityj San Angelo, Texas, 
by Mrs. Betty Jane Smith.)

Information given on the record include columns for the original 
grantee; acres; carriage, buggies, wagons; horses and mules; cattle; 
jacks and jennys; sheep; goats; hogs; goods, wares and merchandisie; 
miscellaneous property; state and county,taxes including the poll 
taxes (which qualified a person to vote). Shown on this list 
abstracted is the number of polls in the household - the number of 
persons eligible to vote. NOTE: Additional names given in supplement 
at end.

NOTE: The statement of the amount of taxes collected was written on 
a piece of paper at the end of the list of the microfilm - the paper 
bearing the letterhead of the County and District Clerk's Office, 
Coke County, Hayrick, Texas 188 , T. C. Collier, Clerk. The statement 
was dated Aug. 15, 1889 and signed by W. S. Buchanan, Sheriff & Tax 
Collector, Coke County, Texas. At this date, Hayrick was the county 
seat of Coke County.
