John C. Hensley, 24, Vineyard, Texas, member of the 131st Field Artillery, known as the "Lost Battalion" since its disappearance while fighting in Java early in the war, is a prisoner of the Japanese government and is stationed in a prison camp in Burma. Relatives of Sgt. Hensley in Coleman have been notified by the War Department that he was being held by the Japanese. Hensley is the husband of the former Miss Inez Buford, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.I. Burford of Coleman. Mrs. Hensley is now employed at a clothing factory at Seguin. Sgt. Hensley volunteered for duty early in the war and received training with the 131st Field Artillery at Camp Bowie. Prior to that time he had been a member of the Jacksboro, Texas National Guard company. At the time he enlisted he was a student at North Texas State Teacher's College at Denton, Texas. He and Miss Buford were married on 11 May 1941. His brother, known here only by the name of "Nook," is in the same outfit and is also being held a prisoner of the Japanese, the Bufords have been informed.
