Kingsbery obituary #2 Democrat-Voice, Coleman County, Texas, 1929 H. W. Kingsbery Is Buried Santa Anna Saturday Afternoon Was one of the pioneers who helped to make this county better place to live H. W. Kingsbery, one of Coleman county's best loved citizens, traveled the last trail Friday, Jan. 4, and his tent is pitched on the eternal camping ground with comrades that have gone before. When it was announced at an early morning hour that H. W. Kingsbery was dead a pall of gloom overshadowed Coleman county and from the country-side and neighboring hamlets friends gathered in informal array Saturday in the Mountain City to pay a final tribute to a departed friend, a man who helped make Coleman county suitable for civilization and fostered the things that have meant so much to posterity. H. W. Kingsbery was born in Carrollton, Ga., Feb. 24, 1847, and died at his ranch home six miles south of Santa Anna Friday morning, Jan. 4, 1929. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in that city Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock and tributes to the deceased were framed words of W. Marcus Weatherred, Mabry Norrel, Rev. Sid Martin and Mrs. J. Hall Bowman, wife of a former pastor of the deceased. Mr. Kingsbery rode the trail in 1877 from south Texas to Abilene, Kan., and in 1882 moved to Coleman county. He purchased the old Pfluger ranch in 1892 and moved to it from Bell county. He served as sheriff of Coleman county from 1892 to 1894 and was not a candidate for re-election. In 1895 he moved to Santa Anna and settled on the Kingsbery ranch where he died Friday. The deceased joined the Confederate army when 15 years of age and was soon promoted to first sergeant in John Beales' Battalion of Georgia. He was a devout member of the Methodist church and the Masonic Lodge and one of the organizers of the First National Bank of Santa Anna, of which he was a director at the time of his death. Mr. Kingsbery was one of the truly great men of Coleman county and was eminently successful in his business career. He thought more of others than of self and wherever his name was mentioned it was with the profoundest respect and admiration. He was not only religious - he was charitable and found happiness in helping to make others happy. The words spoken at the funeral by men and women who had known Mr. Kingsbery longest and best are tributes that will be more enduring than marble shafts that will be erected in his memory. The recollection of his life well spent will comprise a heritage posterity will appreciate and a valuable asset the surviving relatives will cherish. Mr. Kingsbery is survived by his widow, two sons, Howard and Carroll Kingsbery of Santa Anna, and a daughter, Mrs. Merle Woodward of Plainview, Texas. These and the countless other friends of the family throughout Coleman county will have the heartfelt sympathy of the citizenship while they mourn. Active pall bearers at the funeral were Ford Brown, Leman Brown, D. W. Keefer, Burgess Weaver, Roy Stockard, C. W. Woodruff and E. M. Easley of Santa Anna, and Press McCord of this city. Honorary pall bearers were Judge J. O. Woodward, Senator Walter C. Woodward, E. M. Critz, W. Marcus Weatherred, R. V. Wood, Will Gay, Wade Golson, W. J. Coulson, Jim Dibrell, Billie Rose and J. F.
