D. SPARKS FUNERAL HELD TUESDAY J. D. Sparks (John Daniel), 68, dairyman, died very suddenly at his home in the southwest part of Santa Anna, Texas, Monday May 22, 1933, just before noon. Mr. Sparks had done his usual chores about the place, came in in his usual jolly mood; but complained of pains in his shoulders. Death struck him suddenly, and he died before doctors could reach him. According to data at hand John Daniel Sparks was born in the state of Alabama, January 23, 1865. He came to Texas with his parents when just a child, and settled in Ellis County. He was married to Miss Frances Webb, October 10, 1888 at Bristoll, in Ellis County, Texas. To this union were born five children, two died in infancy, the others Mrs Myrtle Ashley and Mrs. B. G. Brown of Santa Anna, and Calvin Sparks of Fisk, together with the wife, survive him in death. Mr. Sparks and his family moved to Santa Anna in 1904, and has lived here since. He was a farmer until 16 years ago, when he started a dairy business, which he has followed since. Deceased was a member of the Church of Christ, and was faithful to his church. He was a cripple most of his life, and in recent years submitted to an amputation of one foot and lower limb. Since that time he has listened to as many sermons over the radio as any one in Santa Anna, according to his own family. Mr. Sparks was a good citizen, good neighbour, always ready to help the needy, numbered his friends by his acquaintences, and got a great deal out of living. His remains were prepared by Hosch Brothers, and buried in the local cemetery Tuesday afternoon, following funeral services conducted by Rev. A.L. Oder at the Christian Church. Out of town relatives and friends here for the funeral were: Mrs. George Ramer of Hillsboro; Mr. and Mrs. Jess Ribbles of Rice; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Webb and Mr. and Mrs. Oran Culberson of Dallas; Mr. Joe A. Webb; Mrs. Marie Mullins, Russell Webb, Vance C. Tankersley; Mr. and Mrs. Dean Webb of Miles; Mr. and Mrs. George Webb, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Poynor; Mr. Abner Johnson, Mr. W. A. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Patterson, and M. D. Widfelt of San Angelo, besides so great a number from Coleman and other places in Coleman County that it was impossible to get all their names.
