Present designation: Texas Historical Marker The cemetery was originally known as Cook Cemetery, and was founded by Henry Cook to bury his son, Daniel, in January of 1847. This is the earliest known marked burial in Plano, Texas. Henry Cook settled in the area in 1845 as a Peters Colonist. His house, which was situated near the present cemetery, served as a landmark on the Shawnee Trail, and it was the first location for the Liberty Baptist Church. The church was attended by several community members, including many non-Baptists, and by some cowboys passing through on the Shawnee Trail. The Henry Cook home also functioned as an early school and social center. Henry Cook, several of his family members, and many descendants are buried in the cemetery. These descendants include members of the Baccus, Bishop, Cook, Dudley, Heustis, Martin, Miller, and Pearson families. The cemetery was re-named Baccus Cemetery in 1915 in honor of Henry Cook’s daughter, Rachel Baccus, who had acquired the land and donated the cemetery to his heirs in 1878. Later she also gave a nearby tract of land for the Baccus Christian Church, which was organized in 1908. FAREWELL ELENOR (illegible) BORN JAN. 14, 1854 DIED NOV. 8, 1881 (foot) E.P.
