All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** Obituary – Volume 52, Number 47 July 8, 1954 (My Great-Grandad) "Obituary: Charlie Bilderback, 72 years of age and a native of the Weston Community was instantly killed Saturday about 4:30 p.m. when he was struck by a truck just after he had stepped from an automobile at his home in Weston, Texas. Mr. Bilderback was born on May 5, 1882 on a farm a short distance north of Weston, a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Bilderback. he had lived in the Weston Community all his life and had retired from farming, his life long occupation about seven years ago. On April 2, 1905 he and Miss Sadie Helms were married at the home of the latter's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Helms of Weston, Texas. A long time member of the Methodist Church Mr. Bilderback had been regularly attending a Methodist revival at the Weston Church and had told a friend a day before his death that he did not plan to miss a single one of the meetings. The accident in which Mr. Bilderback met his death was investigated by highway patrolman Christian and Phipps of Richardson, Texas. The truck which hit him was owned by Aaron Hughes of Cleburne, Texas. The driver of the truck was Walter Odell Scarberry, 19, also of Cleburne, Texas. No charges of the accident which occurred during rain had been files as of Tuesday afternoon and the highway patrolman told the Record that probably none would be. No evidence of negligence had been established. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Weston Methodist Church with Rev. Ralph Vanlandingham pastor of the church conducting assisted by Rev. Harold Mills, pastor of the Weston Baptist Church. Burial was in Cottage Hill Cemetery directed by Helms Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Arthur Sims, Sr., Alonzo Grigg, J. G. Huff, Joe Frair, A. J. Giles and Dudley Burkett. Survivors include his wife: two daughters, Mrs. J. D. Manes of Celina, Texas and Mrs. Nellie Brown of Pasadena,California; a brother, O. M. Bilderback of Celina, Texas; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two son, Collins and Jack Bilderback preceded him in death. (The Celina Record, Celina, Texas, July 6, 1954)."
