Charlcie was 83 years old and was born in Weston, Texas, on Oct. 23, 1924, the daughter of Caleb Alexander Crosswhite and Minnie Iva (Nixon) Crosswhite. She is survived by her champion and adoring husband of 58 years, Hughlon E. Dowell; her loving daughter, Patricia Dowell Scimeca and husband, Michael M. Scimeca; her devoted son, Alex Dowell and wife, Vicky Box Dowell. She is also blessedly survived by two grandchildren, Blayne and Carley Dowell. Her surviving siblings include Inabelle Harrelson of McKinney, Royce (Nick) Nixon Crosswhite and Laverne (Billie) Graves. She was preceded in death by sisters Stella Mae Kirby and Emma Dee Estep; and brothers Fred Kemp Crosswhite, Caleb Levi (C.L.) Crosswhite, Eddy Kerr Crosswhite and Oralon John (Bud) Crosswhite. Charlcie worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. for more than 25 years as an executive secretary. She also had fun while raising her family working part-time jobs at the State Fair of Texas in the publicity department and for the State Fair Summer Musicals. Her love for family and friends, music, crossword puzzles, travel, baseball, basketball and reading a good book or The Good Book kept her agile both in mind and body until her stroke in 2003. But even in the following tough five years, we went to her for dates and names of people, because she was the only one who remembered everyone. As a longtime and devoted member of the First Methodist Church of Farmersvgille, Charlcie was active in teaching Sunday school, was a chancel choir member for awhile and was involved in Methodist women’s groups. She often visited shut-ins and the elderly before her stroke. She was one of the founding members of the recycling program in Farmersville several years ago and was very proud of her efforts. We will forever miss her intensely bright, intelligent light. Visitation took place from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 23. Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Methodist Church in Farmersville, Texas, with Rev. Vic Casad and Rev/ Chuck Aaron officiating. Interment will be at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, Texas. Hurst’s Fielder-Baker Funeral Home in Farmersville, Texas, is in charge of arrangements. ~ ~ ~ McKinney Gazette, June 23, 2008
