All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/ Contributed by: Elaine Bay ******************************************** Wilma Johnson Fisher, 87 of Frisco, Texas, went to be with her Lord on April 16, 2008. She was born on July 29, 1920, in Farmersville, Texas, to John M. and Jessie Lena (Hayes) Johnson. She married Frisco native Donald Fisher on Feb. 26, 1949. Wilma graduated from Farmersville High School in 1937 and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1942 from East Texas State University. In 1968, Wilma went on to attain her master’s degree from North Texas State University. Wilma’s teaching career began at age 19 in a small, one-room school south of Farmersville. There, she was the principal, teacher and janitor for two years. In 1942, she accepted a teaching position with the Frisco ISD, from where she retired in 1984 after 42 years of dedicated service. During her career as a teacher in Frisco, Wilma was the yearbook sponsor for 26 years. She was named Frisco ISD Teacher of the Year in 1979 and District 10 Business Teacher of the Year in 1975. In 2001, the Wilma Fisher Elementary School was dedicated in honor of Wilma. A faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Frisco since 1942, Wilma served her Lord in many areas such as a Sunday school teacher, serving the Nursing Home Ministry and numerous other church committees. Wilma was named Silver Citizen of the Year in 1999 by the Frisco Chamber of Commerce. She was also a member of the Frisco Chapter of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her niece, Martha Griffey and husband, Michael of Rockwall, Texas; great-niece and nephew, Marlena and Micah Griffey of Rockwall, Texas; brother-in-law Jasper Fisher and wife Thelma and nieces and nephews, Carolyn Fisher Hicks, Connie Fisher Abercrombie, Sandra Fisher Buckaloo, Linda Fisher Wyatt, Deborah Fisher Pelt and Michael Fisher. Family and friends were invited to the funeral home at their convenience on Thursday, April 17, 2008, to pay their respects and to sign the register book. The family received friends during a visitation at 6 p.m. on Thursday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Frisco. Funeral services will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 18, 2008 at First Baptist Church of Frisco with Rev. Dr. Chuck Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview West Memorial Park (Bethel Cemetery) in Frisco. The family request that memorials be made in Wilma’s memory to either the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church of Frisco. ~ ~ ~ McKinney Courier Gazette, Thursday, April 17, 2008
