Born in Little Rock, Ark. on Nov. 3, 1925, Eva was raised on her parent’s dairy farm. With her marriage to Horace Grubbs, a career Army officer, in 1941 she began a 56-year partnership that took them throughout the United States and all over the world. Eva endured many hardships, frequently moving her family to accompany her husband on his military assignments. Her priority was always to keep her family together. Following her husband’s retirement from active duty in 1960, they continued their partnership, working together to build a successful business in San Antonio. As their business prospered they were able to enjoy traveling together as well as have visits with their children and grandchildren. Eva also earned an associate’s degree from Incarnate Word College during this time. Following her husband’s passing in 1997, Eva moved to Austin to be closer to her family. Since then she has devoted herself to her family and enjoyed her travels in the United States and Europe. Eva is survived by her son Jim Grubbs and wife, Rev. Lisa B. Hamilton of Venice, Fla.; daughter Sue and husband Craig Bickerton of Austin, daughter Janet Grubbs of Austin; and former daughter-in-law Dr. Mary Margaret Shoaf of Waco. She has four grandsons, Bob Bickerton and wife Alnicee, Tom Grubbs and fianc/e Colleen Kane, Brett Bickerton and wife Maria, and Ted Hamilton; and two great- granddaughters, Sophia Bickerton and Roma Eva Bickerton. Eva is also survived by her sister Dorothy Mattson; her sisters-in-law Cordie Harrelson and Marie Grubbs; as numerous nieces and nephews. Eva Grubbs will be remembered as an intelligent, caring woman who enjoyed her life while bringing joy to those around her. She had the grace to accept people as they were and that endeared her to family and friends. She was much loved and will be deeply missed by all of us. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Leonor Frierson-Stroud and nurse Rosemary Bookman for their compassion and care during her illness. Additional heartfelt thanks to Eileen Krampitz for her loving support to Eva and family. A visitation took place from 4 to 6 p.m. June 28, 2008, at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home in Austin. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. June 30 at Ted Dickey Funeral Home in Plano, TX. She will be buried alongside her husband at Ridgeview Memorial Park in McKinney, Texas. Pallbearers will be her four grandsons and her nephew, Gough Grubbs. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory be made to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, 4801 La Crosse Ave, Austin TX 78739. ~ ~ ~ McKinney Gazette, June 29, 2008
