Striemer Galen "Doc" Frank Striemer died Oct. 31, 2001, in Woodland. Born on March 25, 1920, in Fairmont, Minn., to Vandala and Frank Striemer, he was 81 years old. In 1944, he graduated from the University of Minnesota with a business degree and later became a certified public accountant. He worked at the Farmers and Merchants State Bank of Alpha, Minn., founded by his father, and at various construction companies as treasurer and financial officer. He was active in and served as an officer for professional accounting organizations. In 1986, he retired from the position of financial officer for the Associated General Contractors of California in Sacramento. He was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church and as an elder, served in many leadership positions. In his retirement, he worked as volunteer director of the South Sacramento Ecumenical Parish. He was a tireless volunteer all his life, serving the Sacramento United Way, Legal Aid for the Elderly and Disabled, Senior Connections, and the Mental Health Association. He loved playing cards and was an active member of the Widowed Persons Association of Sacramento. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilda "Gussy," and sons Keith and Jeff. He is survived by his wife Shirley Striemer of Woodland; his sister Helen Meium of Alpha, Minn.; daughter Katy Spanos and husband George; sons Charles Striemer and wife Diana of Frisco, Texas, and Andy Striemer and wife Genene of Concord; as well as five grandchildren. A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Presbyterian Church, 625 Florin Road in Sacramento.
