All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** Van Everett Wester Obituary Funeral services for Van Everett Wester, 82 years, 1 month and 6 days old, are being held Thursday 2:30 p.m. in the First Methodist Church in Celina, Texas with Rev. Noble Glasco pastor of the church and Rev. J. T. Bledsoe pastor of the Bethel Baptist Church officiating. Interment was to be in Cottage Hill Cemetery with Harris Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Wester, a former resident of Alla Community for about seventy years died Tuesday at 3:13 p.m. in Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas after having been a patient there for thirteen days following a fall in his home in which he suffered a broken hip. Mr. Wester was born August 26, 1874 in Smithville, Tennessee, son of the late W. S. and Josephine Merritt Wester. He came to Texas with his parents when a small child and the family settled near Blossom Community. A few years later they moved to Roseland Community. Mr. Wester and Miss Maggie McWhirter were married December 19, 1895 in the home of the bride’s parents near Alla Community. He has been a member of the Methodist Church for many years. Survivor include the wife of Celina, Texas; three daughters, Mrs. Jim Thompson of the Marilee Community, Texas; Mrs. M. G. Balch of Gunter, Texas and Mrs. Dave Cozart of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one son, Wallace Wester of Fayetville, Arkansas; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Douglas of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Nan Manes of Waxahachie, Texas and Mrs. G. W. Tillerson of Tioga, Texas; one brother, W. L. Wester of Celina, Texas; three half-brothers, Hershel Wester of Port Arthur, Texas, Ben Wester of Celina, Texas and Paul Wester of the Rock Hill Community, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Mr. Wester and his wife, both celebrated their birthdays on August each year, which was always the occasion for a family gathering.
