He was born in McKinney, Texas on May 16, 1926, to David and Joyce Weakes. Mr. Weakes graduated from the University of Arkansas. He served in World War II in the Battle of the Bulge, escaped from a POW camp and was awarded the Purple Heart. He started his career as the manager of the Sears Farm Store in Memphis in the 1950s. He was promoted to merchandise manager, then moved to Atlanta as a merchandise buyer and retired from Sears after 40 years of service. He then moved to Panama City Beach where he owned and managed rental condos, then retired and moved to Orlando until the death of his wife. He then moved back to Memphis to be with his children. He is survived by his children, Davey Weakes and wife, Mary Jo, Selinda Bradley and husband, Frank, Valli Saliba and husband, Joe, Glynn Weakes and wife, Terry; grandchildren, Jody Saliba, Jordan Saliba and Brianna Weakes, all of Memphis; and sister, Esther Kincaid and husband, Louis of McKinney. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Joyce Weakes; and wife, Christine Clark Weakes. A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney with Rev. Weldon Harris officiating.
