He was born in Russell County, Kentucky in 1812 and died on May 29, 1892. He had ten children. His first wife was Nancy Dunbar who died in Nov 14, 1853. They had seven children, one of whom settled in the Forest Grove area, Zachary Taylor Coffey. His second wife was Mary Ann McFarland Ballew. They had three children, one of whom was Sterling P. Coffey, a well known McKinney businessman. Salathial is buried at the Fitzhugh cemetary, in Forest Grove as well as many of his descendants and extended family members.
