Deed Record Colorado County, Texas. Rawson Alleys Deed- Second Seal 12 rrs. legalized by the Mexican nation for the year 1834 Austin. The party interested paid in this justice court under my charge 12 rrs due for the above seal town of San Felipe de Austin July 5th 1824, Sylvanus Castleman- To the commissioner Baron de Bastrop - Rawson Alley- a native of the United States of America and now resident of this Province say before you that having moved to said place with desire to locate in the Colony allowed by the Superior Govt. of the Mexican Nation to the Empresario D Estevan F Austin, I hope that in admitting me and my family as oned of the settlers of this colony, you will please sell me and give me possession of the tract of land which the law grants to the settlers with the understanding that I shall promptly cultivate the tract assigned me subjecting myself in all cases to the existing laws and defend the rights of Independence and the liberty of the land, I ask you therefore, to do as aforesaid for which I shall receive favor and justice. The Empresario D Estevan F Austin will report about the means and necessary requisites of the petitioners so as to know if he deserves the favor he asks for Bastrop - To the commissioner - by virtue of your foregoing decree I must say that the settler Rawson Alley derserves the favor he asks for and can be admitted as resident in this new Colony on account of his good qualities, circumstances he is in and his notorious application to the agriculture, rearing of cattle and industries, for which one league and a half of land can be granted him - San Felipe de Austin July 29th 1824, Estevant F Austin at the town of San Felipe de Austin on the second day of the month of August of the year eighteen hundred twenty four the Baron de Bastrop sixth voter of the Hon. provincial senate of Texas, commissioner of the Govt and Estevan F Austin Empresario to establish a new colony in this Province by virtue of the commissions granded to the former by the Page 3 Govt. of this Province Lieut. Colonel D Luciano Garcia by his decree of July 16th 1823, and the order of the political chief of this province Jose' Antonio Sancedo dated June 23rd 1824 and of the powers granted to both under that of the Supreme Mexican Govt. Dated February 18th affirmed by the decrees of the Sovereign constitutional congress and the executive power dated April 11th and 14th 1823, and that of the General Commandant of these provinces Brigadier D Felipe de la Garza issued on the 16th day of June of said year as stated in the report made by said empresario D Estevan F Austin about the emigration of 300 foreign families, granted to us by said commission and decrees and in view of the merit and means of the petitioner Rawson Alley as shown by the foregoing report we have come to sell and grant him, and by these presents do sell and grant him in the name of the Govt of the Mexican Nation to him the said Rawson Alley his heirs and successors one leage and a half of land lying in said colony without means of irrigation only with the use of permanent springs which we will give him in possession giving him the title thereto for his safeguard as soon as he pays the dues prescribed by the tariff promulgated by the political chief of the province of Texas May 20th of this year. In testimony whereof we sign with assisting witnesses on the proper day month and year to which we attest- The Baron de Bastrop - Estevan F Austin- Assisting John Austin- Assisting- Samuel M Williams- The said commissioner Baron de Bastrop and the Empresario D Estevan F Austin the witnesses James Cooke, Hugh McKinzie and McNair the surveyor Seth Ingram and the party interested Rawson Alley, all repaired to said league lying on the East bank of Colorado River at the place where the Atascosito road crosses it from a point on said bank at an elm marked RA and ( 7 words stricken out Translator) three varas distant from another elm east the surveyor began, measuring 3994 varas to a white oak marked RA Thence southeast 4000 varas, Thence Southwest 1639 varas Thence Southeast 5000 varas where another mound was put forty varas from a black oak South 40 degrees West marked RA and 50 varas from a Evergree oak South 55 degrees West Thence South West 3405 varas to the upper corner of Page 4 Gabriel Straw Snyder's league on said river where a poplar tree of ,,, feet in diameter stands, marked R A and ten varas from another poplar west Thence up along the river's meanders to where he began, having one league in superficie bounded on the Southwest by said Colorado River Northwest by John Haddon's leaague Northeast by National lands and Southeast by Gabriel Straw Snider's league then we went to the said Half a league on said River and opposite the above name league and from a poplar on the West bank of said river marked RA seven varas distant from another poplar Southeast the surveyor began measuring 3000 varas Southwest where a mound was erected thence South 47 deg. East 5027 varas where another mound was erected Thence Northeast 2000 to said Colorado River to a hackberry two feet in diameter marked RA and lying fifteen varas from another hackberry North 70 deg. West Thence up along the river's meanders to where he began the first line having one half a league of land in superficie bounded Northeast by said Colorado River and on the other sides by national lands, we gave posession to said Rawson Alley of said lands taking him by the hand over them telling him in loud and audible tones of voice that by virtue of the commisiion and the powers granted us and in the name of the Govt. of the Mexican Nation we put him in possession of said lands with all their uses, rights, appurtenances and hereditaments for himself, his heirs and assigns and the said Rawson Alley finding himself in real and personal possession of said tracts without opposition, shouted, pulled grasses threw stones, planted stakes and performed the other necessary ceremonies being warned that he is under obligation to cultivate them inside of two years as prescribed by law.
