Married Tom B. Wortham (Worthan)
(Dec 25, 1825 - Sept 30, 1879)

Probably one of the first to arrive in Texas (daughter Theresa born 1853 in
Texas) Settled in Red River County. Several family members stayed with them when
they came to Texas as well.

Gustine (Comanche Co) Texas
August 30, 1908

Dear Sister and Brother,
I will try to write you a short letter to let you know I am still living, yet
and able to get a round but not able to do much. But do all I can. I had begun
to think you was not going to write.

Jane you wanted to know how far we lived from the railroad -- 13 miles. You
don't know how proud I would be to see you once more in this life. Can't you and
Rollie come if you can we will meet you at the railroad. You did not say
anything about Ellen.  Where is she?

I make my home with Sue and her man [John F. Poindexter] 3 years ago. I had to
undergo an operation, stone of the bladder, 2 stones as large as hen eggs. Have
got them to show anyone if it had went any longer I would not been here for I
suffered death.

I want you to answer this at once and let me know if you can't come.
Love to all from your sister,

Gustine Comanche Co Texas 1908

Dear Uncle and Aunt,

[Raleigh & Aletha Jane Thompson Hightower. She is sister to Lydia Worthan]

While reading the Dallas News [April 24, 1908] came across your pictures and
thought I would write you all a short letter and see if you all would answer me.
 Many times we speak of you both. Would be glad to see you all. Uncle Rolly, why
can't you and Aunt Jane come to see us.

Aunt, Ma would be so glad to see you once more in this life. Ma's health is very
good considering her age.  Ma will be 83 the 5th of October, if she lives to see
that day.

I know you will be surprised to get a letter from me. I guess you have forgotten
me. Me and Your Liddie is about the same age so I will tell you how many
children I have. 5 is my number. My oldest is a boy 25 years old [John] and the
next a girl 21 years and the third a boy, 15, and the fourth a girl, 10. The
fifth, a boy, 8 years old, so that is my number.

Ma said not long ago you and Aunt Jane might be dead, so we are proud to know
you are sill living and hope when this reaches you will find you both enjoying
good health. This leaves us all up.  My health is bad. I hope you will anser
this soon and I'll write you a long letter.   

This is Sue Worthan. I married a man by the name of Poindexter, so I guess you
will know who it is. Back your letter to Gustine, Comanche Co, Texas.

Aunt Jane, Ma lives with me. You would hardly know her she is not fleshy like
she was when you last saw her. When you answer this I will write you a long
letter. Ma said tell you to be shure to come to see her. Hope to hear real soon.

August 30, 1908 Gustine Texas

Dear Aunt and Uncle,
This Sabbath even I will try to answer your nice kind and welcome letter to hand
and was glad to hear from you all. I had began to think you did not care to hear
from us by not writing. I would of answered sooner but I have not been well.
Aunt, you wanted to know about the boys.   I have not heard from them in some
time and can't tell you us children are well scattered.

Aunt, you wanted to know how far we lived from the railroad. We live 13 miles
and I have one child that lives near the railroad. Comanche is the nearest point
to us and my youngest sister, Annie, she married Lee.  Her and my girl, both
live in Comanche.  Cleo has married a man by the name of Henry Johnson, so if
you want to come to see us, write us and we will be there to meet you.

Aunt, you don't know how proud we all would be to see you. I do wish you and
mother could meet in this life once more. It would be much pleasure to her.  She
is getting feeble. Will not last much longer.

Write me and let me know if you can come. Tell Uncle, he can spare the time to
come if he will tell Liddia to write me. Aunt, write as soon as you get this.
This leaves all up not well. I hope to hear at once.
