A personal letter with a prescription for Mrs. M (Martha) E (Ellen) Gordon, 
wife of Paul Otwell Gordon.

Personal Letter;
Gorman Texas  June 22nd 1895
Mrs Gordon
  Dear friend I received your letter   I was truly glad to hear from you   I 
did not know what had become of you all   I send you the treatment for cholery 
(Infantum)   I tryed to make it as plain as I could   you can get the medicine 
& mix it yourself   write me word what all the children are doin   give the 2 
girs my respects   give my respects to Paul & tell him I would be glad to read 
a few lines from him   how is George  has he forgotten me give me a 
discription of your country.  Crops are fine here  plenty of rain it is 
raining now  I am broke down & lost my health.  What has become of your 
Father  I am more than willing to give you my information or prescription

Prescription;
Treatment of Cholery Infantum
10 grains of Calomel
10 grains of Bismuth
10 grains of Prepared Chalk
5 grains of (Dever) Powders
Divid the above Equal in 10 Powders give one every 4 hours & if they do not 
seem to act enoug  give another round like the 1st 
After taking the above
1 oz of Bismuth
1 oz of (Laote) Pepsin
1/2 oz (Parigarie)
1 oz Glycerin
1/2 pt Alcohol
4 oz FlaxSeed Meal
Boil the FlaxSeed Meal down to 1/2 pt of Water  then strain it goodf through a 
cloth  Mix the whole above in a pt bottle   
Shake well 
Dose Teaspoonfull every 4 hours
While giving the last mixture get 1 oz of Tinct of Iron & give 4 drops in 
sweeten water befor each meal 
If the child has fever get 20 grains of Antie-Febrin and give it in 1 grain 
dose every 2 hours until fever is reduced   you can give the Antie Febrin 
while taking any the other medicine
I think this will cure any case

I do not know if this is of archival interest to you. This was found in the 
possessions of Josephine Westbrook, granddaughter of Martha Ellen Gordon
