Feb 20, 1997 Jewell Dean BALLINGER - Jewell G. Dean, 91, died Tuesday in a local hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Henry Chisholm officiating. Burial will be in Old Runnels Cemetery, directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home. Mrs. Dean was born in Baird and worked as a self-employed seamstress for many years. She was the widow of Ernest Herbert "Hub" Dean, whom she married in 1923 in Paint Rock. Survivors include two sons, Herbert H. Dean and Bill Dean, both of Ballinger; one daughter, Martha Palmer of Ballinger; one sister, Ada Wilson of Greenwood, Miss.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Greer, 83, died Sunday at a local hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 4002 Buffalo Gap Road, with the Rev. David Ray officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park . Mrs. Greer was born and grew up in Abilene and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1935. She was past secretary to the Abilene Independent School District superintendent and was a member of First Baptist Church. She lived in Washington, D.C., serving as head of personnel for the federal government from 1946-1970. She moved to Austin in 1970 and returned to Abilene in 1972. She was the widow of Terry C. Hays and married John H. Greer in 1985 in Paint Rock. Survivors include her husband, of Abilene; one stepdaughter, Stacey Rhiddlehoover of Abilene; one stepson, Dale Greer of Round Rock; nine stepgrandchildren and 17 stepgreat-grandchildren. Mr. Fenton was born and grew up in Coleman and graduated from Coleman High School. He was a pipeline contractor and a Baptist. He married Vicki Jones in 1978 in Paint Rock. Mr. Rodriguez was born in San Antonio and attended school in Brownwood, where he lived most of his life. He worked as a laborer and was a Catholic. Mr. Colburn was born in San Saba and graduated from Winters High School and Texas A&M University. He married Dorece Clary in 1937 in Hearne. He worked in South Carol for 36 years with the U.S.D.A.'s Soil Conservation Service and returned to Winters in 1976. He was mayor of Winters for eight years and was active in the Lions Club and First United Methodist Church . Price, 84, of San Angelo and formerly of Ballinger, died Wednesday in a San Angelo hospital. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Christian Church in San Angelo with the Revs. Ben Hubert and Winford Gore officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, directed by Rains- Seale Funeral Home. Mr. Price was born in Rochelle to pioneer Concho County ranchers and graduated from high school in Millersview. He attended San Angelo College and John Tarleton College in Stephenville and married Margaret Kitchens in 1936. He helped raise Rambouillet sheep and Black Angus cattle near Millersview and Paint Rock before moving to Ballinger in 1948. He also ranched near Eden . He was a member of Paint Rock Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a past Rotarian club president and served on the Runnels County school board for many years. He also was a director of the Ballinger Memorial Hospital for several years and was an honorary member of the hospital's auxiliary. He was a life member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association and was a past board chairman of Paint Rock First State Bank. He was a longtime leader of the Ballinger Downtown Bible Class. He was an elder and board member of First Christian Church in Ballinger and taught Sunday school for many years. He also was a member of First Christian Church in San Angelo. Survivors include his wife, of San Angelo; one son, H. Mr. Jacoby was born in Concho County and graduated from Eden High School. He married La Nell Siler in 1942 in Concho County and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He managed the 9 Bar Ranch while living in Harris County from 1956-78. He then moved to Hempstead . He moved to Lake Coleman in 1989 and ranched in Concho, Harris and Waller counties. He was a Lutheran. Survivors include his wife, of Lake Coleman; two sons, Sam Jacoby of Hempstead and Monte J. Brewster, 89, died Sunday in a Breckenridge hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Moran Methodist Church with the Rev. Douglas Stenberg officiating. Burial will be in Moran Cemetery , directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home. Mr. Brewster was born at Deep Creek in Shackelford County and attended school in Moran. He married Selma "Shirley" Samuelson in 1936. He was in the U.S. Navy for 20 years until 1949 and was aboard the USS Blakeley when it was torpedoed by a German U-boat. He worked with the Naval Centennial Attachment in Dallas, as an instructor with the Naval Turbine and Boiler Laboratory and as assistant superintendent of Shipbuilding Consolidated Steel in Orange. He co-operated Longrin's Boot Shop in Junction for 20 years until retiring in 1969 and lived near Junction for more than 30 years until returning to Moran. He portrayed the character "Pilate" in the Easter pageant in Junction for 19 years and helped organize the Rainbow Girls chapter in Junction, Kimble County Hospital and a dam project on South Llano River for Junction City Lake. He was active with the Kimble County and Moran Historical museums. He was a past president of the San Angelo Rotary Club, past commander of the Burt Fleming and James Pettit posts of American Legion, and past District 21 commander of the American Legion Department of Texas. He also a charter member of Suez Shrine Temple in San Angelo and was a past patron of the Order of Eastern Star. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of Albany Masonic Lodge, Legion of Honor and First United Methodist Church. Survivors include one son, Tim Brewster of Eden; two grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and eight nephews and nieces. Mr. Zebley grew up in El Paso and moved to Abilene in 1972. He was an Air Force veteran and worked for Abilene Metal Building for several years. McGuffin and Dawson McGuffin, both of Winters; two daughters, Frances Imogene Pentecost of Early and Thelma Pearl King of Smithville, Miss.; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- November 25, 1998 Leonard Eugene Bowden WINTERS - Leonard Eugene Bowden, 63, mechanic for Winters Farm Equipment for many years, died Monday in a Ballinger hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Winters Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Gehrels officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Mr. Bowden was born in Miller, Kan., and moved to Texas at age 6. He grew up in Mercedes and moved to the Winters area in 1958. He was a volunteer firefighter for 23 years. He was a member of RLDS Church in San Angelo. Survivors include one son, Gene Bowden of Eden; three daughters, Darlene Ortiz, Elizabeth Bowden and Katherine Willborn, all of Winters; one brother, Keith Bowden of Taylor; one sister, Janice Millner of Austin; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
