He received a land grant because he fought and because he was injured. Post Oak Cemetery—3 miles south of Ogelsby, Coryell, TX Inscription on headstone: CAPT. H. M. SMITH (Captain Henry Madison Smith) A Texas Veteran Died Dec. 7, 1882 Aged 64 years 20 days. [This is probably off by a year according to family records and other documents.] The soldier has put his weapons down instead of the sword he accepts the crown. O let our grateful hearts praise and adore him who saves, forgives, and every wound doth heal. God knows it all [Henry Madison Smith (son of General James & Hannah Parker Smith) born 17 Nov 1817 in South Carolina. Married Sarah Susannah Hall (daughter of John & Susanna Hall) 9 Jan 1840 in Nacogdoches County, Texas. They had nine children. Sarah died 23 Dec 1885 and may be buried in Post Oak Cemetery.
