Sarah Bean Pidcoke Texas Sept 15, 1894 Dear Aunt Lydia, Your letter to hand was gladly received by all. Am sorry to hear that your baby is sick. [F.M. born June 9, 1893] Mama is just beginning to sit up a little now. Baby is doing well. Her name is Winnie May. [born Aug 15, 1894] I enjoyed my trip splendid out there. Was sorry that you all could not come home with us. Mrs. Love said that she looked for you to come back with us. [Mrs. Love was a friend of Lydia. They corresponded often] She has got a trip for you and her to take when you come out here to Sulphur Springs at Lampasas. We have a good garden now. Do you all have plenty of fish now? Our literary society played out while I was gone. Miss Mattie Hall, one of our best ones in the society, got killed by a barrel of water falling on her. She was perfectly black nearly all over. Mama says that she hasn't got any news to send you only come to see her fine girl. Well, I will close. Hope to hear from you son. Your niece, Susie Bean [would have been 16 years old] Pidcoke Tx May 24, 1896 Dear Fred, I was surpised to get a letter from you. Three of us went out to the Sandridges last year to buy hogs, found them high bought very few when I returned to Gatesville learned some man near Blooming Grove had a good many hogs to sell. I wrot you thinking it might be you got no answer. Supposed you had moved to panhandle or gone to Arkansaw. You want to know how many sheep I have 950 head wool 7 1/2 to 8 cts Don't you see Democracy. Believe I will have to quit sheep on account of grass b/heards? If I quite sheep will try cattle. Don't know what I will do yet. Some of our feeders say they lost money last fall feeding. Don't see how this could be corn at 18 to 20 cts delivered unless they paid too much for cattle. If I go into cattle will buy yearling and grow them. Come out and see us. Yours truly, Ellis Bean Pidcoke Texas April 23, 1903 To Mrs. Ellen Hall 604 S. 18th St West 10 ave Corsicana Sister Ellen We were sure glad to get a letter from you. We are in distress. Henry is getting well though we will have to send him to the asylum. The fellow that knocked him in the head on account of jealousy (without cause) shot Henry down about the 15th of March. One shot went through wrist, one through each thigh one thigh broken. Henry now is about well. [Henry born 1876 - so 27 years old] We will be proud to get Ruths and Nellie pictures. {Nellie 1872; Ruth 1888 Nellie married W.A. Ricker Oct 1888] I never got those birds for Ruth last year. Perhaps we will go west this summer. Am thinking Henry's mind would improve out there. Susie is living in Runnels Co likes there. I have sold sheep and gone to cattle. Don't know how long can do without sheep. When I found Henry was crazy and armed and gone to Bates I followed him and sent word for them to get out of the way until we could catch him, instead of getting out of the way they armed themselves lay down behind rock fence and when Henry come along they shot him down. the most lowdown trick people could have done - shoot crazy boy and us trying to catch him. We have had lots of rain had the wettest winter ever saw. All are well except Henry. Hoping this will find you all well and happy. We all send love to you all come out to see us this summer. With best wishes to you all, I remain Your brother, E.A. Bean By Jan 20, 1907 the family had moved from Pidcoke to West Texas.
