All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ****************************************************** 26 November 1858 New York Times, p. 8 The Galveston Civilian, of the 11th, has the following: "On the 26th October, Charles Elam, who lived about seven miles southwest of Gatesville, was found dead, about one mile from his residence, shot through the heart with an arrow - stripped of all his clothing except his shirt. His horse, saddle and bridle were taken. Twelve Indians were seen in the neighborhood the same day, and a number of horses were stolen, some of which belonged to the PIEDCOCKS near Cowhouse. A small company is pursuing the Indians."
