"Former Coryell County Woman Dies in Quannah"

 

"The many friends of Gatesville and Coryell County regretted to learn of the

untimely death of Mrs. P.P. Lewis who will be remembered as Miss Bertha [Julia

Tabitha] Culpepper before her marriage to Rev. P.P. Lewis, who is also a Coryell

County boy and is a brother to Mrs. C.N. Tucker of Gatesville.

 

Rev. and Mrs Lewis were reared in Coryell County near Eagle Springs. Mrs Lewis

passed away Saturday after a brief illness at her home in Quannah, Texas. The

remains were shipped to Eagle Springs for burial. The funeral services were held

at the Baptist Church of Eagle Springs for burial. The funeral services were

held at the Baptist Church of Eagle Springs Monday at 10 a.m., a Baptist

minister from McGregor officiating. Interment was made in Eagle Springs Cemetery.

 

Mrs Lewis was a devout Christian and the beautiful floral offerings bespoke for

her the love of her many friends. 

 

Those left to mourn her going are two daughters Mrs. Anna Parks, Glover,

Quannah, Texas, Mrs Rotha Dyer, Coolidge, Texas, two sons, John Edwin and

Marshall Lewis of Quannah, Texas. A mother, two brothers and three sisters with

a host of other relatives.

 

The News joins the many friends in sympathy."

NOTE:

Parkey P. Lewis and Julia Tabitha Culpepper were married June 12, 1901 in

Oglesby, Coryell County.



Parkey P. was the son of Julin Lewis. He was born 1880 in Oglesby, and died 1948

in Quannah. Also buried in Eagle Springs Cemetery



Julia Tabitha "Bitha" Culpepper was the daughter of Anna Eliza Grimes and Evan

A. Culpepper.  She was born April 10, 1883 in Eagle Springs. Died Feb 25, 1933.

Granddaughter of Elmira S. Farley and Frederick Miller Grimes, early settlers of

Texas.
