TUBBS Clifford M. Tubbs of Waco, and a former resident of Gatesville, died Friday in Waco. He was 73. Services were held Sunday at Cole Funeral Home in McGregor with Rev. Buddy Sipe officiating. Burial was in Crawford Cemetery. Mr. Tubbs was born February 11, 1918, in Jonesboro, son of the late Joseph Alexander and Rhoda Emma Pruitt Tubbs. He attended school at Coryell City and graduated from Gatesville High School. He later attended McLennan Ciommunity College for several years. During World War II, Mr. Tubbs served in the US Navy and was awarded the United States Occupation medal, Japan Good Conduct pin and the Third Award. In 1947, he married the former Miss Ludmila Grizell. He was employed by Darr Equipment Company in Waco as a heavy equipment operator for 23 years until his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the George Denton Masonic Lodge No. 24 in Waco and the American Legion. During World War II, he worked for the government at Camp Barkley and at Mare Island in California. For ten years he was the parking lot attendant at Cooper High School. In 1936, he married Minnie Marie Campbell in Hamlin. She preceded him in death in 1984. Born Nov. 10, 1904, in Eastland, he was the son of the late Joe and Cora Walker. He married Clara Faucett Oct. 29, 1929 in Nolanville. He and his wife spent their married life in Flat. He was a rancher by profession. He was a Baptist. She lived most of her life in Temple, and in Arlington the past four years. She was married to Ray Walker in 1934. He preceded her in death. She was married to Joe Walker on April 20, 1948. He also preceded her in death on April 8, 1970. She was a homemaker. G. Bertrand Dead After an illness of Several months, E. G. Bertrand, of Missouri City, Texas, passed away at the Rice-Allen Infirmary at one o'clock Tuesday morning. Of realtives at teh bedside at teh time of his death were his wife and brother-in-law Judge Taylor of Gatesville. Deceased was brought to Marlin about ten days ago, in a precarious conditions, his family having adopted this as a last resort to prolong his life. Mr. Bertrand was 45 years of age and for fifteen years had been superintendent of the Cunningham sugar plantation at Missouri City. He leaves a wife and four children. The remains will be conveyed to Gatesville, leaving Marlin at six o'clock to-morrow morning. Interment in Gatesville cemetery at 2 o'clock in the afternoon of the same day. He was 68 and had been a patient in a Clifton nursing home for several years. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Scott's Funeral Home chapel and were conducted by Rev. D.W. Copeland. Burial was in the Turnersville Cemetery Mr. Ross, son of Tom and Margaret Ross, was born at Flat on June 15, 1909, and was reared in the Hubbard and Flat communities. He married Miss Lois Farris on Nov. 22, 1929, at Flat. He farmed at Flat until moving in 1945 to Turnersville, where he and his wife owned and operated the Ross Grocery. Ill health fored Mr. Ross to retire in 1965, but the family continued to operate the store until last year. Mr. Ross was a Baptist. He was only ill a few days prior to his death. Mr. Duffie had been a resident of Hillsboro for several years. He was a cotton buyer. Services were held Sunday at the home of his mother, by Rev. C. A. Morton of the First Baptist Church of this city, after which the remains were carried overland by Marshall and Marxhall undertakers, to Hillsboro for burial. The deceased was born in Gatesville Nov. 1873 in Gatesville. He is survived by his wife, his mother, Mrs. Lance Walker of Hillsboro; three sons, Earl of Tyler, Homer of San Diego, Calif. His mother died when he was 3 and his father died when he was 13 years of age, and from that time on he made his own way in the world. He came to Texas in Sept. 1892, after spending some time in Tennessee and Missouri. He was married to Mary Coleman at Levita in Sept. 1893. Three daughters were born to them, all of whom survive, and now reside in the Levita community. He was an honest, upright man and was very devoted to his family. Funeral services were held Feb. 11 at the Levita Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Henry L. Oliver of Fort Worth, a nephew of the deceased and Rev. J. W. She has been a resident of Texas for the last 77 years, most of that time she had lived in Coryell County. She was married to Richard Hill 67 years ago. Mr. Thompson was born in Troy, Bell, Co., Texas in 1876 and 58 years of age when he died, at 9:40 March 6. Rev. M. M. Chung officiated at the funeral and Mr. Thompson was accorded Masonic Rites by the Masonic lodge of Jonesboro. Mr. Thompson was a retired farmer and was operating a boarding house and hotel a the time of his death in this city. He had moved to this county when he was a boy and spent most of his life on his farm near Jonesboro begfore moving to Gatesville. S. Jenkins, age 86, who for many years was a resident of this city died at his home in Pasadena, California last Friday morning from a sudden heart attack. Mr. Jenkins was born in Alabama but came to Texas as a youth and settled in Gatesville. He grew with this section of the county and retired to Pasadena something like 25 years ago. He was a superintendent of the Union Sunday School here in 1871 and was the first superintendent of the local Baptist Sunday School and served in that place until 1904. L. Hancock died at her home Monday, September 17 after an extended illness of heart trouble. Vallie Beavers was born Feb. 14, 1889, at Gause, Milam Co. She was the daughter of Mrs. Mattie Beavers, who preceded he in death eight years ago. She was married to R.L.Hancock in December 1912. To this union were born five children; four daughters and one son. Mrs. Hancock was a membr of the Missionary Baptist church having been converted at eleven years of age, and was loved by all who knew her. She leaves with her loved ones a host of friends to mourn her departure. Those surviving are her husband, R. L. Hancock, one son, Jesse, four daughters, Mrs. Ola Motheral, Ruby, Verna and Mattie Lee Hancock.
