She was laid to rest in the Levita Cemetery Friday afternoon, June 13, 1924. Mary Magoline [sic] Vandyke was born at Dandridge, Tenn., on the sixth day of September, 1884 [sic - should be 1854]. She was married to J. L. Hughett in Jefferson County, Tenn., in 1870. They came to Coryell County in 1904. To this happy union, eight children were born. Seven boys and one girl. All are living and attended the funeral but Jimmie B., who died at the age of 10 years. Those living are W. T. Hughett of Levita; L. L. Hughett, Rio Vista;, Mrs. T. M. Brown, Alpine; G. H. Hughett, Gatesville; R. C. Hughett, Gatesville; E. G. Hughett, Sherman, I. D. Hughett of Waco. She has three brothers and one sister living, twenty two grandchildren living and four dead, and three great grandchildren living. Her father, has been dead some few years, but her mother has been dead only 18 months. She was a member of the Methodist Church at Levita. Having been a member there ever since she came to this county. We grieve for her and there will always one vacant chair, but we find one consolation in knowing that she is waiting for us "Over There," where no death, pain, or sorrow ever comes, and when we pass from this life into the life everlasting, her sweet smile will be there to welcome us. Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep, From which none ever wake to weep, A calm and undisturbed reposing, Unbroken by the last of foes. Asleep in Jesus, oh how sweet, To be for such a slumber meet With holy confidence to sing lost That death has lost its venomed sting She is gone but not forgotten. Bloom brightly, sweet roses Bloom brightly above The mound that encloses the form that we love Diffuse o^Òer her bosom the sweetest perfume From each glowing blossom that smiles o^Òer her tomb Oh, tell to the weepers, in whisperings low ^ÑTis well with the sleeper who^Òs resting below Oh, tell us the spirit of her that we love, has gone to inherit the kingdom above. M. Patteson Buried at Ireland Daniel McCormick Patteson was born May 30, 1849, in Pulaski, Giles County, Tennessee. In early manhood he came to Texas, settling in the northwestern part of the state. He was married in 1875 at Decatur to Miss Elizabeth Pauline Standifer. To this union there was born eleven children, three having preceded their father and mother in death. Mrs. Patteson having died in March 1926. Uncle Dan has been a member of the Methodist church for thirty years and leaves to mourn his passing a host of loved ones and friends. He quietly passed away at noon December 31, 1932. The funeral services were conducted in the Methodist church, the Revs. Studer and Whitefield officiating. Interment was made in the Ireland cemetery. Active pallbearers were Willis Wilson, H. E. Huckabee, J. M. Witcher, D. L. Edwards, P. M. Pendleton, J. G. Huckabee, J. I. Dooley, all of Ireland and W. T. Voss of Gatesville. Uncle Dan leaves eight children, Buford M. Patteson, Mexia, O. P. Patteson of Ireland, Mrs. B. M. Bouchelle, Copperas Cove, Mrs. Saunders Walker, Ireland, Thomas Meridian, Mrs. G. C. Voss, Gatesville, and Mrs. Rex Humphries, Ireland [note ^Ö obit says 8 children, but only 7 listed; son Daniel Fletcher Patteson omitted]. In speaking of old pioneers the list would not be complete without mentioning Uncle Dan. Most of those old pioneers and old time Texas cowboys have passed over the great divide and are sleeping in graves from the Red River to the Rio Grande. All honor is due these noble men who braved the hardships and lived a life of sacrifice that the torch of civilization might be kept burning. Uncle Dan^Òs life was like a beautiful picture always portraying love of life and mercy of the savior, and sunshine. To him life was full of love and mercy of the savior, and he was always ready to follow his will. Uncle Dan welcomed the grim messenger of death for he was ready for the summons to his eternal home, and discordant incidents of this earth will trouble him no more; where he will have peace and tranquility throughout the endless ages.
