Burial was in Restland Cemetery. Born Dec. 19, 1921, in Coryell County, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Rosa Baker. She married W. B. Gregory in 1962. He preceded her in death in 1984. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1969 after working there for many years. She was a member of the Baptist Church in Odessa. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Imogene Sims of Gatesville, Mrs. Doris Schumpert of Midland and Mrs. Martha Dunn of Hearne; one brother, Wayne Baker of Giddens; and several nieces and nephews. Hamilton, 83, died Saturday at his home on Rt. 1, Oglesby. He was a retired water treatment plant operator and a longtime resident of the Oglesby area. Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Scott's Funeral Chapel and were conducted by Rev. Jim Brazzil. Burial was in Flint Creek Cemetery. Mr. Hamilton was born Dec. 19, 1900, at The Grove. He married the former Emma Tutor in 1922. She died in 1982. Mr. Hamilton was a water treatment plant operator for 29 years, working for the city of Temple and for Fort Hood before his retirement in 1953. He was a Methodist. Survivors include two sons, A.W.(Wayne) Hamilton and James Hamilton, both of Rt. 1, Oglesby: a daughter, Jane Hamilton of Grandview; one brother, Everett Hamilton of Oglesby; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Mr. Hamilton, who served in the U.S.Army during World War II and was a disabled veteran, died Saturday morning at his home in Fort Gates of an apparent heart attack. Born April 18, 1923, in Coryell County, Mr. Hamilton was reared in the Flat community. He married the former Joy West on April 21, 1946. Mr. Hamilton worked for the late A.H.(Red)McCoy for several years and was later employed by the late U.L.Rhoads and by Davidson Auto Parts before his retirement. He was a member of the Live Oak Baptist Church. JAN. 9, 1992 MAJOR HAINES DIES HERE SATURDAY Major Juan D. Haines of Gatesville died here Saturday. He was 72. Graveside services with full military honors were held Monday at Levita Cemetery. Scott's Funeral Home was in charge. He was born November 27, 1919, in Mountainaire, New Mexico and moved with his family to Coryell County as a small child. He was reared and educated in Ireland and graduated from Ireland High School. He also received a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Texas College in Killeen. In 1941, he entered the United States Army and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He served with the 23rd Armored Division in the European Theater and received the Purple Heart and two Silver Sars with clusters during the war. Major Haines retired from the Army in 1966 after 25 years of service. He married the former Miss Nona Jane Franks January 11, 1948 in the Hood Village of Coryell County. After his retirement, they moved to Arkansas before returning to Gatesville in 1970. Major Haines was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 919 at Camp Knox, Kentucky, a member of the Gatesville VFW and DAV. He was a Protestant. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nona Jean Haines of Gatesville. Memorials may be made to the american Heart Association. Burial was in Restland Cemetery. He was born February 4, 1904, in Coryell County, son of the late Albert and Fadie Harper. He attended school in Gatesville and graduated from Gatesville High School. He married Bobbie Cayce and they made their home in Oglesby. She preceded him in death in 1972. On April 24, 1974, he married Johnnie Ruth Bannister. Mr. Harper was president of the First National Bank in Oglesby for over 50 years. He was very active in farming and ranching, and was an active supporter in many civic organizations in Oglesby, including the Oglesby Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Johnnie Ruth Harper of Oglesby; a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Betty) Woods of Austin; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. HODO J. W. Hodo, 78, of Evant died Dec. 17 at Gold Star Nursing Home in Goldthwaite. Services were held Dec. 19 at the Evant Funeral Home Chapel with Byron Beasley of Lometa officiating. Burial was in the Murphree Cemetery. Born Jan. 24, 1909, in Evant, he was the son of the late William Newton Hodo and Celia Ezma Dickson. A lifetime resident of Evant, he married Duella Hodo Jan. 30, 1929, in Hamilton. He was a rancher. Survivors include his wife; three sisters, Ezma McGilvary, Edna Smith and Lucile Jackson, all of Evant; and two brothers, Weldon Hodo of Evant and Kenneth Hodo of Lafayette, LA. Pallbearers at the funeral were Hollis McGilvary, Harold McGilvary, Wayne McGilvary, Ronnie Jackson, Donnie Jackson and Larry Hodo. GATESVILLE -- George Richard Hodges Jr. 63, of Gatesville died Friday at his home. Graveside services with military honors will be 11 a.m, Monday at the Gatesville City Cemetery, Dr. Truman Turk officiating. Mr. Hodges was born Nov 16, 1926, in Turnersville, where he was reared and attended school. He was a U.S.Mavy veteran of World War II. Mr. Hodges wern to work for a California construction company in 1956, working around the world until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of Keener Chapel Methodist Church. Survivors include his mother, Mary Frances Hodges of Benbrook; a daughter, Patti Tatum of Denton,; five sons, George (Ric) Hodges III of Fort Gates, John Neel Hodges of Granby Colo., James Ray Hodges of Anna, Ill., Michael Paul Hodges of Lilburn, Ga., and Chuck Hodges of The Grove; a sister, Lula Francis Helfers of Arlington; a brother James Eugene Hodges of Weatherford; and seven grandchildren. HODEL'S LAST RITES Services for Mrs. Adam (Wilhelmina) Hodel, 86, of Gatesville were held at 10 a.m. Friday at Scott's Funeral Home chapel. Rev. Wa;yne Best conducted the rites and burial was in Canaan Baptist Cemetery near Coryell City. Mrs. Hodel, a lifelong resident of Coryell County, died Dec. 10 in a local nursing home. Daughter of the late John and Eva Mack, she was born March 4, 1894, near Coryell City and was reared in this county. She was married to Adam Hodel on Aug. 21, 1929, and they made their home in the Coryell City area. Mrs. Hodel moved to Gatesville following her husband's death in 1966. She was a member of the Bethel Heights Baptist Church She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Schange of Gatesville, and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Hodge was born Feb. 10, 1905, in Killeen, the son of Sylvanus and Nancy Hodge. He was married to Leola Summers March 27, 1942, in Copperas Cove. MAY 7, 1992 MR. HOBDY Charles Morris Hobdy of Temple died at his home April 29. He was 47. Memorial services were held Saturday at Harper Talasek Funeral Home in Temple. He was born August 6, 1944, in Houston, son of Mrs. Mattie Leee Aven and the late Chester Hancock. He lived in Temple for the past 23 years where he was employed at Santa Fe Railway. Mr. Hobdy was a member of the Temple Masonic Lodge and the First Baptist Church in Belton. He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Stewart. Survivors include his mother, Mattie Aven of Gatesville; one son, Randy Hobdy of Belton; two daughters, Tammy VanCleave and Alissa Hobdy, both of Temple; a brother Don Hobdy of Gatesville; and four grandchildren. HIX Mrs. Earlene Nesbitt Hix of Gatesville died here January 9. She was 84. Services were held Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Gatesville with Rev. Don Grogan officiatiing. Burial was in Restland Cemetery. Scott's Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She was born June 25, 1907, in Coryell County, daughter of the late Earl Hampton and Eula Sadler Nesbitt. She was raised and attended school in Valley Mills, graduating from Valley Mills High School in 1925. Mrs. Hix attended Trinity College in Waxahachie for two years and graduated from Baylor University in 1929. She married Mr. O. N. Hix November 22, 1929, and they made their home in Gatesville. Mr. Hix preceded her in death October 22, 1974. Mrs. Hix was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gatesville. Survivors include two daughters, Miss Janis Hix of Gatesville and Mrs. James (Jean) Smith of Hamilton; and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were Stanley J. Mr. Hitt was born May 3, 1907, in Winchell, the son of John and Isa Hitt. He was reared and attended school at Winchell. He was married to Julia Stamper on July 14, 1928; she died in January 1943. He later married Grace Barrington on July 5, 1946, in Marlin. He had lived in Gatesville since 1942. He was past district deputy grand master of the Masonic Lodge and past master of Gatesville Masonic Lodge No. 197. He was a Protestant. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Howard Lee Hitt of Gatesville, Charles Douglas Hitt of Waco and Cecil Calvin Moon of Weatherford; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Mae) Mounce of West and Mrs. Dick (Faye) Collins of Temple; a brother, Jewel Hitt of King; a sister, Mrs. Agnes Cole of Fort Worth; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
