Spiers, 76, of Gatesville died Sunday evening at the local hospital after a lengthy illness. He was a retired brickmason. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Marwitz Brothers Funeral Home chapel in Gatesville and were conducted by Rev. James Pool. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Hanna Cemetery, Cherokee. Mr. Spiers, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Artie Ward Spiers, was born June 6 1904, in Coryell County. At the age of five he moved with his parents to Cherokee, where he resided most of his life. For the last six years he had been a resident of The Rotunda nursing home here. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Cherokee. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Arte E. Castelli of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; two sisters, Mrs. Zelma Dean of Buchanan and Mrs. Sammy Lou Seah-bailey of Kountze; one brother, Armo Spears of Dallas; and two grandchildren.
