H. Wade, 5223 East Side, who will celebrate his ninety eighth birthday Saturday, likes to travel. In fact, he plans to go to Gettysburg. Pa., in June to the reunion of Confederate and Union veterans. A native of Northern Alabama, Mr. Wade first set eyes on Dallas sixty years ago when he drove a team of horses from his farm home to Old Mexico, going by way of North Texas because of the yellow fever quarantine in many parts of Tennessee and Mississippi. He spent a short time in Mexico before returning home, but came back to Texas four years later to settle in Ennis, Ellis County. In 1884 he came to Dallas and has lived here most of the time since. For many years Mr. Wade operated a coal and wood business on the site of the present Olive & Myers furniture factory at 2220 Young. Now he spends a good deal of his time fishing at White Rock Lake, with pretty good luck. He recently built himself a new boat. Mr. Wade lives with his youngest son. R D. Wade. Of his twelve children, seven are living. He also has twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Additional Comments: Daniel Wade married Mattie Grizzard March 1876. She was the daughter of Henry P and Martha Grizzard. Mattie and their infant daughter, Aletha are buried in the Alma Cemetery. Wade, Mattie E. Jan 22 1860-Oct 13 1892 wife of D. H.
