Coats (12 Aug 1882- 20 Apr 1942) Dallas Morning News April 21, 1942 Tripp Farmer Passes Following Long Illness MESQUITE, Texas, April 20.-E. A. Coats, 60, well-known farmer of the Tripp community, east of Mesquite, died Monday at his home in the community where he was born following an illness of a year. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3 P.M. at the Tripp Baptist Church with the Rev. Lambert, officiating, assisted by the Rev. W. H. Wynn of Dallas. Mr. Coats was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam Coats. He and his family were leaders in the Long Creek Cemetery Association, one of the few community cemeteries that has continued to be a factor in country life. He was a member of the Baptist Church since 1906 and a member of the Woodmen of the World since he was 18. Survivors include his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Edgar Summers and Mrs. Vernon Smith, Mesquite; Mrs. Leslie Freeman and Mrs. Jack Norton, Fort Worth; three brothers, Jim Coats, Lamesa; Jess Coats, Dallas, and Homer Coats, Sherman; two sisters, Mrs. Burton Jones, Dallas, and Mrs. Henry Smith, Mesquite.
