Coats, Leader In Mesquite Church Special to The News MESQUITE, Texas, March 6.-Funeral service for R. L. Coats, 74, who died early Thursday at his home north of here, will be held at 2:30 P.M. Friday at the Mesquite Baptist Church, with the Rev. R. M. Thompson, officiating. Mr. Coats, born and reared in the Long Creek community, spent his entire life in and near Mesquite. He was actively engaged in farming throughout his life, with the exception of a few years spent in the grocery business in Mesquite. He was a charter member of the Mesquite Baptist Church. Mr. Coats served as teacher, deacon, song leader and superintendent of the Sunday school during his forty-nine years as a member. He was a prohibitionist. He married Miss Lizzie Amburn of Long Creek fifty years ago and they celebrated their silver wedding anniversary Dec. 3, 1938. He was a deputy sheriff under Will Reynolds. Mr. Coats is survived by two sons, Albert Coats, Dallas, and Emmett Coats of Coppell; a daughter, Mrs. Lillie Ketron of Mesquite; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Interment will be in Long Creek Cemetery.
