Coats (25 Jun 1872- 13 Apr 1938) Dallas Morning News 16 Apr 1938 Son of Dallas’ First Justice of the Peace Will Be Buried Today Funeral services for Wall Coats, 66, of Mesquite and son of Dallas County’sfirst Justice of the Peace, will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday at the Mesquite Baptist Church, the Rev. Grover Lewis, Tripp Baptist Church,and the Rev. Rex Thompson, Mesquite Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Long Creek Cemetery. Mr. Coats’ parents were Thomas D. Coats, who served Dallas County as its first Justice of the Peace, in 1850 and Mary Ann Coats, who settled in the county in 1846. Mr. Coats died Thursday [14 Apr 1938] in Dallas as he was on his way to visit relatives after coming from his home in Malvern, Ark. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Maggie Mick. Mrs. Ethel Post, both of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Lucille Cougale,Terminal Island,Calif.; two sons, Mack Coats, Hot Springs Ark.,and Clint Coats, Los Angeles, and twelve grandchildren.
