Mrs. Howell was Miss Sarah Bernard. She was born at Russellville, Ark., in 1828. It was there that she married Thomas Howell and with him she came to Dallas County in 1857. She settled at Lancaster and that has ever since been her home. Mr. Howell died in 1875. About three weeks ago Mrs. Howell came to Dallas for a visit. She had a fall in which her forehead received a blow and a gash was cut that required fifteen stitches. How she fell is not known, but it is supposed she stumbled and that her head struck some sharp projection. She never recovered from the shock of the blow. Surviving her are three daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. Adah Sims and Mrs. Nannie Salmons of Dallas; Mrs. Bettie Rusk of Eureka Springs, Ark.; Melville Howell of Dallas and L. Bernard Howell of Lancaster. Mrs. Howell was always a very active woman. She had great strength of body, of mind and of character and was a leader in church work and for many years of the social life of her community. Her acquaintance was extensive and her popularity as great. Through this section of the State and in Arkansas there is a very large relationship. The body of Mrs. Howell will be taken to Lancaster today and interred Tuesday or at a later time. Title: Dallas County Pioneer Dies Date: 1907-07-29 Page: 5
