Latimer died this morning of traumatic erysipelas. He was well yesterday and completed the editorial for the "Herald." At 9 o’clock this morning he was dead. (Reported Ap. 6, 1859, by Jno. Crockett, Southern Intelligencer) Later reported - Mr. Latimer was a native of Tennessee, he removed to Red River County with his father’s family in 1834, being then about six years of age. He received as good an education as could be attained in the country, studied law, and opened an office in Paris, Lamar County. Having, however, been reared in the school of politics, and being a very ready writer, he, by degrees, became so much engrossed in writing for the papers, that he entirely abandoned his law practice and placed his name before the public as an editor. With what success he managed the "Dallas Herald" from it inception to the present time, it is not necessary to say. He leaves an aged father, wife and children.
