Smith, aged 81, a resident of Long Creek community for 30 years, died at 1:50 o’clock Thursday morning, March 19. Mrs. Smith was born in Mississippi and was married to H. M. Smith on Feb. 23, 1873. They came to Texas and this community in November 1901 and the remainder of their lives were spent on the place which they purchased that year. Mr. Smith died on July 19, 1925. Mrs. Smith was the mother of nine children, four of whom—two sons and two daughters—precede her in death. The surviving children are J. H. Smith, C. C. Smith, Sidney Smith, Mrs. Sim R. Coats, all of this community and Mrs. Carrie Price of Dallas. She is also survived by twenty-seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Tripp Baptist church, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, with Rev. Payne in charge. Internment took place at the Long Creek cemetery. Mrs. Smith, who was converted many years ago, was of the Primitive Baptist faith. She measured up to high standards of womanhood and was held in high esteem in the community where she spent the last thirty years of her life.
