McCRUM TEXAS CAPTAIN INF RES WORLD WAR I MAY 7 1895 FEB 20 1955 Additional Comments: Richard Douglas McCrum, born 7 May 1895 in Emory, Rains County, TX, the second child and only son to Dr. Samuel Stephen McCrum and Emma Lou Simmons. He was one of the first flight instructors for the Army Air Corp at Kelly Field in San Anontio at age 19 prior to World War I. He was shipped to France in 1919 where he served until the war ended. Afterwards he served as a Captain in the Infantry Reserves at Camp Mabry in Austin. Later he worked for the WPA in Dallas. He married 1st Ginger Bender: one child Betty Jean McCrum b 1928. He married 2nd Sara Isabel Thomson 25 Jan 1936 in San Antonio. They were parents of two children: Helen Suzanne McCrum b 1941 and Richard Douglas McCrum, Jr. b 1948. He died 20 Feb 1955 of cancer in Dallas and was buried at Crown Hill Memorial Park in Dallas.
