Woodruff, pioneer of Delta County, has passed away. His services were held in the Baptist church and interment made in the Oak Lawn cemetery. He was born in South Carolina in 1837; moved with his parents to Chickasaw County, Mississippi, when 16 years of age. He taught school in various places in Mississippi, and when the civil war came on enlisted in the Confederate Army. His right thigh was shattered at the Battle of Malvern, disabling him from further active service. He resumed teaching at the close of the war, and in 1879, went to Arkansas, but one year later came to Lamar County. After eight years he came to Delta County where he reared his family and has since resided. He served as Representative in the Twenty-first Legislature.
